Description
BioMechanically, the Step-Smart® design is more energy efficient than the competitive designs. It’s more desirable than the stiff design, since it allows for good plantarflexion at heel strike. It’s more desirable than the flexible designs, since it is preloaded. The benefit of a preload on the system is critical to shock absorption. Also, the Dorsi Flexion assist joints allows the best clearance at swing phase.
With drop foot, however, it is not desirable to have a design with free plantarflexion. Naturally, our bodies control the deceleration at heel strike with an eccentric contraction of the dorsiflexors. This combined with a slight flexion moment at the knee is what creates the best shock absorption. With other flexible solutions, there is too much plantarflexion at heel strike causing foot slap. The result is trauma and pain to the calcaneous.
The reason that the Step-Smart® design is superior to the others is that it provides resistance to plantarflexion the instant the heel hits the ground. Some other designs need to be plantarflexed before the resistance is high enough to be effective. By then it is too late. The shock of hitting the ground has already damaged the foot and ankle. The new Step-Smart® provides a pre-load that controls deceleration at contact. The Step-Smart® drop foot brace has come closest to providing the right amount of deceleration (dictated by pre-load). It is appreciated and considered the best drop foot brace by the medical community because patients feel better during ambulation. This AFO comes with all parts necessary to function properly. Included with each brace: 3 sets of compression components (variety pack), 1 calf strap, 1 I strap, 1 velcro set. Top cover and replacement parts are extra.

I have MS and I love mine. I have an all plastic custom made one, and this is so much lighter and much more comfortable. If I had gotten it sooner, I would have saved myself from a lot of foot pain! Highly recommended.

I received my brace yesterday and LOVE IT! I have had dropped foot for about a month now and was wearing a boot that was really more for ankle injuries – but I had it on hand. WHAT a difference this brace has made! I am able to walk now (pretty much completely normal!) – still have PT for a few weeks – but I think this brace can only help me improve. The PT had recommended a plastic, custom one that was going to cost $800-$1800! I just couldn’t justify this – in case my scenario does improve with the exercises. I HIGHLY recommend this brace – thank you for creating it!!!!

Hi,I saw each and every photos and videos of step smart foot drop brace and I loved it also I’m suffering from foot drop. The only problem is that this product is not available in India. Can you please arrange this in India please I’m very disappointed due to my leg its happened in an bike accident. The price is very high when convert dollars to Indian rupees. Size 13- 14 would not really work in a Large- but we can accommodate with XXL – because it is not one of our standard sizes it it a bit higher priced at $249.00.
This would still be eligible for our No risk trial period ( as long as it in shipped in the US)- where you have the brace for at least 7 days, in hand, to try it out. If you don’t want to keep it, for any reason, just call for a return authorization number and once we get the brace back the full cost of the brace will be credited back to your card. I have foot drop due to a stroke and my current AFO is very heavy. I liked the weight of this brace but the back pressed into my calf so bad I couldn’t wear it. I tried to call to get an authorization number for my return but no one answered. Looks like I’m stuck with a $200 brace I can’t wear. 1 week is not enough time to figure out if something works when you have a condition like foot drop.
